Bringing Baby Home: A Workshop for New Parents

Parents holding their newborn

Two-thirds of new parents report a decline in marital satisfaction after the birth of a baby. The added stress and time commitment, the lack of sleep, and the change in identity that comes with parenthood can challenge even the most solid relationships. So how can we be part of the other third who don’t experience a decline, or are even more satisfied than before baby?

In this workshop we will discuss research-based tools you can use to maintain and strengthen your relationship amidst the transition of becoming a family. We will look at red flags to watch out for and how to counteract them.

The quality of your relationship is key to the happiness and wellbeing of your children. Investing the time to strengthen your friendship will have a significant positive impact not only on your relationship, but also on the relationship between you and your baby.

This workshop is for couples expecting a baby or who have had a baby within the last three years. Babies in arms (not mobile, up to 6 months) are welcome. We will happily accommodate time to feed, change, pump, etc. throughout the course. Snacks and drinks are provided.

FAQ

My partner and I are happy together. Do we need this course?
Yes! The workshop is intended for typical couples who are recent or soon-to-be parents. You will get tools and tips on how to maintain your friendship and strengthen your bond with each other and your baby. If you already have a solid relationship many of the exercises may come easier to you, but you will also learn about new tools to add to your tool belt and we will address relationship issues specifically how they relate to being new parents.
My partner and I are looking for counseling and considering separation, is this course for us?
No, this course is not couple’s therapy. If you and your partner have serious issues you would like to work out I encourage you to seek out a qualified therapist for couple’s therapy. A group setting like this is not the appropriate place to work through significant relationship issues.
Will the course cover childbirth or infant care?
No, those are outside the scope of Gottmann Bringing Baby Home. This is a class focused on the couple’s relationship after having a baby and working to strengthen that foundation for the sake of the entire family unit.
Do both partners need to attend?
Yes, both partners should be available for all sessions.
What is the refund/cancellation policy?
Full refunds are available for cancellations more than 14 days before the start of the course. Within 14 days the full course amount will be charged.
What’s included in the course fee?
The workshop is 12 hours long, taught by a trained Bringing Baby Home educator who holds a Master’s in Clinical Psychology. For the physical workshop at the Hebammenpraxis Zurich you will receive the course materials, consisting of the course workbook and six Bringing Baby Home card decks that can also be used at home after the workshop. Snacks and drinks are also provided. For online workshops the price is reduced and you are expected to purchase the class materials yourself. They are available digitally or you can get a physical Couple's Materials Set.
Are gift certificates available?
Yes. Please contact me directly.
